POEM (Biblical exegesis) by Justin Sherwood

Biblical exegesis
in which I smash
the heads of the next
generation’s children
against the stones. Where
I don’t find meaning
I find myself
reproduced in quivering
tide pools, however
shallow. I come to the coast
(all civilizations do)
seeking my future.
I find instead
only my likeness
will float.

Justin Sherwood’s poems and essays have appeared in H_NGM_N, elimae, The Poetry Project Newsletter, and elsewhere. He is a graduate of The New School creative writing MFA program, where he was selected for the 2012 Paul Violi Prize in Poetry.
